How To Make a Resolution and Stick to It

Posted by Elizebeth Alejandro on

Setting goals for the New Year can either be an exciting process or an exhausting process and its up to you to choose which way to see it. Have you ever made a New Years Resolution and actually stuck to it? Well if the answer is YES then congrats! You’re an extra special person because you’ve joined a slim majority of people who actually have stuck to their resolutions. If you’re the person that sets goals and resolutions and forgets about them 1 week after New Year than its ok, you’ve come to the right article. Here are some simple steps you can take to setting those New Years resolutions and crushing them!

1.Put careful thought into it
People usually begin the New Year with a resolution they made while hanging out with friends over some cocktails on New Years Eve. You made it because it was the hot topic, it was what everyone was talking about and what every one was doing. Instead sit with a pen and paper and write out what you want to see happen in the new year. After you write down all the things you want to see then find the common thread and set your resolution around that. Writing things down gets all the noise out of your head and down on paper. Then you can actually come up with a plan of attack because its plain and visible.

2.Start On a Monday
If New Years day is on a Saturday(a cheat day for some) then how likely will it be that you actually start your diet, exercise ect on a weekend? Mondays are the start of the work week which is the best day to start those resolutions. Plan out meals and workouts the night before so that when you wake up Monday you have a clear direction of where to go.

3.Practice Will Power
This one is tough because sticking to a goal and resolution requires crazy tough discipline and will power. We are on a constant wheel of things tugging and pulling at us that sometimes its easy to get caught up in it and as a result we loose out focus. Focus on you and your results. Don’t worry about what other people will say or think when you kindly decline that beverage or piece of cake. Practice using it everyday even just starting out with something small and when you succeed make sure to reward yourself for doing something good.
